Durango, Colorado- This Saturday, December 14th will be race number 5 in the local cyclocross series, hosted by Fort Lewis College. Race times have been moved up to 2pm for the B Men/Open Women/50+ Men and 3pm for the A Men/35+Men to allow for more comfortable spectating and allow better live internet streaming. America One, the same service FLC uses for their football broadcasts, will provide the hosting site and the race will be streamed live online from 2-4pm. This is the first time the local cyclocross series has attempted this and local television/internet station IDTV will be manning the cameras and aims at providing a post event edit to be show locally this upcoming new year. Local KIUP Sports Talk Radio host Rick O’Block and myself will be doing the live race announcing for the viewers as well.
Cyclocross is considered to be the most fan-friendly of the cycling disciplines where much of the action can be seen from one vantage point and fans can get up close to the action in the technical sections. While many competitors use Cyclocross bikes the races are open to mountain bikes also.
Registration and parking is at the North Football parking lot on campus and the event is open to all abilities from beginner to professional. Cost is $25 with a USA Cycling License and an extra $10 for those non-licensed riders.
