5/23/2015 — Good morning, riders! Based on the info from the latest OpenSnow forecast, we are a GO for the event! See you at the start lines: 7:30am at Durango High School for racers; 8:00am at McDonald’s for the Citizen’s Tour, and 8:15am at McDonald’s for the Quarter Horse. Bring your warm clothes and have a great time!!
Forecast:
“Race day is upon us and everything looks to be in great shape weather-wise. No big changes compared to last night’s forecast. Temperatures are currently in the upper 40s in Durango, upper 20s along the passes, and in the low 30’s in Silverton. There are a few lingering showers but the skies will clear by 6am. The road surfaces are slightly wet but they will dry out when the sun comes up and gets higher in the sky later in the morning. We have a green light from the weather so let’s go have some fun!”

5/18 UPDATE:
Greetings again IHBC Registrants!
As we quickly approach the event, more items to convey.
WEATHER
We will begin providing weather updates for the weekend beginning Wednesday, May 20 on our website and through our social media channels. We have procured the services of a meteorologist to provide the most accurate information possible for Friday, May 22 to Monday, May 25. We are an outdoor event and are subject to Mother Nature. We have contingency plans in place for most likely scenarios and will implement as needed. As for the “go/no go” decision for riding to Silverton on May 23, it will be a joint effort of law enforcement, race organization, and local communities at 6 a.m. the morning of the event (Saturday). The results of that decision will be posted on our website, at start lines for events, on our social media channels, and some local media.
REGISTRATION & BIBS
Any participant who signed up after March 10, or who has not received their bib number packet in the mail, should stop by final packet pickup at Buckley Park (12th St & Main Ave, Durango) from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, May 22. We will also have final registration for the Quarter Horse to Purgatory, Subaru Circuit Race, BP Time Trial, MBS mountain bike race and Grassburger Group Ride at that location. There is no race day registration for any events with exception of Sprite Kids Race.
If you currently have a registration question or issue, please contact us this week at [email protected]. Please do not wait until Friday or at the start of the event as it is much easier to resolve in advance.
BIB PLACEMENT
Bib numbers should be placed on the left lower back /hip area. Please make them visible and not covered by a jacket or vest. The bike number should face left as well. Bike frame configurations vary so please make every effort to make it visible from the left side. Racers, this is particularly important for you: If we cannot see your bib and bike number it may impact your results and timing as we use a finish line camera and write down bib numbers in addition to chip timing.
RIDING TO SILVERTON
For participants in Saturday events (McDonalds Citizens Tour/Coca Cola Road Race/Quarter Horse) please note that there will be significant traffic control devices and plans in place to get riders from Durango through the Animas Valley (10 miles North). This is a Colorado Department of Transportation requirement. It will include traffic reroutes, traffic cones, merge lanes and other impacts. Specifically, at mile marker 32 on Highway 550 there will be a significant narrowing of the road for riders from one lane of traffic and the shoulder to just the traffic lane to then just the shoulder. This comes just before the train tracks crossing in Hermosa. Please ride carefully and keep your head up for reroutes and traffic furniture. Early bird tour riders need to stay right at all times as race groups starting at 7:30 a.m. will be coming up behind you in large numbers.
RETURN TRANSPORTATION FROM SILVERTON
For those that have selected return transportation: Busses will leave Silverton beginning at 1:30 p.m. as they fill. The Train will leave from the Silverton Depot at 1:30 p.m. Please plan accordingly. Bicycles are returned to Durango High School (24th St & Main Ave) via truck as the road opens. For those still needing return transportation, we will have a small amount of return bus tickets for sale at Buckley Park (12th St & Main Ave, Durango) from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, May 22.
