Greetings Cyclists,
The time is fast approaching when Race Across America (RAAM) and Race Across the West will roll through/into Durango. This is a remarkable event, and we in Durango are fortunate to be able to witness a bit of it. Here is a link their website: raceacrossamerica.org
The RAAM time station will be located in Santa Rita Park. This is also the FINISH LINE for RAW! I helped with this last summer and found it to be a fun, inspiring experience. Highlights included witnessing a rider change between David Zabriskie and Dave Mirra, as well as schmoozing with the 8-person team that included royalty–Pippa Middleton!
In order for all to run smoothly, and to properly celebrate the RAW finishers’ accomplishments, we need your help! Race Director Jon Reiling, from Denver, is the official in charge of our time station. Assistant Race Director Amanda Knutson, from Boulder will compile the volunteer times for us. Below please find their description of help needed, duties, etc., as well as a spreadsheet of times to be covered.
Please email or phone Amanda ([email protected], 515-681-6036) with your availability.
Attention All Cyclists and Cycling Fans! We are looking for volunteers in the Durango area to help be part of the Race Across America time station and the Race Across the West finish line. These two races are the pinnacle of endurance cycling and attract racers from around the world!
The dates are Thursday June 18th – Sunday June 21.
Duties will include set-up and breakdown, running the finish line operations for Race Across the West (860 miles) presenting finisher medals, taking finisher photos, communication with race headquarters, running for food, and helping with the RAW banquets.
Volunteers will also involved with running the operations for the RAAM Durango time station. You will be interacting with the RAAM racers and their crews by providing directions, time station check-in, and monitoring penalties if assessed.
This is a fantastic opportunity to be a critical part of the most prestigious endurance cycling event anywhere in the world. You will have the best view in the house!
Volunteers will be provided a race t-shirt, food and drink during their shift and an opportunity to attend one of the RAW banquets if you volunteer for at least two 6hr shifts.
This event runs 24hrs so we can always use help for those “night-owl” shifts.
Thanks in advance for your help!
