Durango Riders Done Did Good at 2016 Fat Bike Worlds

Four Durango racers competed in the 2016 USA Fat Bike National Championships at Powder Mountain Ski Resort, Utah, Saturday February 27th. The course was well groomed, temperatures were in the low 30’s and the wind blew 20 to 30 mph. The 2 mile climb in each lap was directly into the wind. The podium finishers were Martha Iverson 3rd in the 60+W and Steve Colford 3rd in the 60+M. Travis Brown was 7th in the Pro’s and Richard ‘Bags’ Bagienski was 10th in the 60+M.,

Steve recovered from a high speed crash when he was cut off by another rider for his 3rd place. Bags said he was bumped and bars touched after the start while hitting 25mph in the first 1/2 mile. Martha was taken out at the start by a 50+W racer. She needed help to put her rear wheel back and lost time. The rear derailleur was bent so the chain clunked a lot with gears hard to find during her race. Next year Fat Bike Nationals are scheduled at Indian Trails Golf Course, Grand Rapids, Michigan.
